The successful Mechanical Engineer will be an individual or incumbent who will be responsible for the general execution of and the related activities including, but not limited to: Providing supervision, training and technical guidance to the various Lead Mechanical Engineers and miscellaneous equipment engineers whom they supervise. Making recommendations to the Mechanical Department Manager regarding the hiring of engineers who have a general mechanical engineering background or who are experienced with leading a mechanical engineering effort on a task force. He/She may serve as a Lead Mechanical Engineer on large projects. He/She will see to it that the Lead Mechanical Engineer understands the basic mechanical scope, participates in developing the project schedule (as required) relative to the mechanical activities and assist the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the preparation of the Mechanical man hour estimate. He/She will be responsible that all Mechanical Engineering work performed by the various Lead Engineers whom they supervise will be performed on schedule and within the Mechanical budget of man hours. He/She will ensure that the Lead Mechanical Engineer communicates with the various Chief Engineers in obtaining the proper discipline engineering of design assistance for the required period of time. He/She will demonstrate effective communication skills, be a self starter and work well with other Commonwealth and Customer staff.
II.Reporting and Interfaces
Functional: Reports directly the Lead Mechanical Engineer
Administrative: Reports to the Principal Engineer and Mechanical Engineering Manager
Subordinate Interface, coordination and cooperation includes, but may not be limited to: Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers, Lead Designer and Designer
III. Basic Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 5-10 years hydrocarbon, energy, chemical, refining or closely related process industry experience
Demonstrated Management and Supervision experience of Engineers and Designers
Proven experience with Mechanical equipment, schedules and project administration
Possesses fundamental knowledge and experience with construction
Familiar with equipment design, fabrication and inspection
Detailed knowledge of ASME code, TEMA and commitment to Safety stewardship and management
Possesses the ability to recognize construction execution issues and act accordingly to communicate and mitigate negative impacts, schedule erosion or negative cost trends in an effective and timely manner
Familiar with Quality control and Assurance and possesses working knowledge of requisite codes and standards
Capable of participating in meetings and communicating effectively up and down the chain of command
Familiar with project control cost, scheduling and estimating functions to the extent that issues are realized in sufficient detail to effect timely notice of higher management
Has a fundamental working knowledge and appreciation for other related project services such as purchasing, material control, receiving and warehousing, rigging, transportation and related site logistics
